Zach Hughes Prosthetics Prosthetist

Zach Hughes

Owner, LCP

Zach Hughes is the owner and founder of Oconee Prosthetics. He is certified as a prosthetist by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics (ABC), and is licensed to practice in the state of Georgia. He currently serves on the Georgia Composite Medical Board’s O&P Advisory Committee, and has done so since 2016.

Zach is a second generation prosthetist, following in the footsteps of his dad, Jim Hughes, in restoring mobility to persons with amputations of the arms or legs. In addition to being around the field throughout his childhood, Zach brings a unique combination of skills with his hands-on experiences both as a clinician and a technician over the past 15 years. Zach worked part-time during the semesters and full-time during the summer as a lab technician at Atlanta Prosthetics and Orthotics while earning his B.S. in Business Management from Georgia Tech. It was during this time that he developed a love and respect for the craftsmanship required in creating prostheses using plaster, plastics, resins, composites, and a confidence with lab and grinding equipment.

His attention to detail is apparent, and you can be assured that he takes pride in creating the works of art that his patients wear as their functional prostheses.

Zach lives in a rural area between Madison and Athens with his wife of 10+ years, Amanda and their daughter, together with their 2 dogs and 2 cats. When Zach isn’t working, you can find him volunteering at his church, on a golf course in his quest to consistently “break 80,” a disc golf course, fishing, playing the guitar, working on his vehicles, or simply enjoying time at home hiking around with his family.

Jim Hughes

Jim Hughes is the father of Zach Hughes and is a PRN member of our staff. In addition to being the principal owner of Atlanta Prosthetics and Orthotics from 1999-2014, Jim has served on the Board of Directors of ABC and is currently an examiner for ABC. He has served as a President of the Georgia Society of Orthotists and Prosthetists. He is board certified and licensed to practice prosthetics in the state of Georgia.

He owns and operates his non-profit 501(c)(3) Hughes International Clinics, which provides prosthetics to indigent patients in Mexico and Colombia, up to 4 times per year as his schedule permits.

His decades of experience in private practice and in pediatric institutional settings leads him to be our resident specialist in pediatric prosthetics, upper extremity prosthetics (body-powered and myoelectric) and advanced methods in short transfemoral and hip-disarticulation prosthetic treatments.

As a semi-retired practitioner, he is often found on his tractor at his homestead in rural Walton County with his Bloodhound - Wyatt.

His international clinics information can be found at hicsga.org
